NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

The N.S.S.has been introduced in this College since 1981,to inculcate in the students the science of nation building,social responsibilty,dignity of labour, development of youth leadership and above all a disciplined life.
The College, at present is having three N.S.S.units (two male units and one female units with total number of one hundred and fifty volunteers under its banner .Each volunteer is expected to attend the weekend camps and one special camp,besides attending the intrastate and inter-state camps.A minimum of 75% attendance is obligatory.Certificates are issued to the deserving volunteers on the basis of their outstnding performance.
The N.S.S. may adopt a rural tribal village,a leprosy colony,a slum area and voluntary agency as its adopted area for all-round development.
The N.S.S. works with the motto, Not me but You. Its goal is to have Education through community service and community service through Education. It has the overall objective to have Development of personality through community service.
Keeping the above in view ,it works with the objective
(a) it enable the students to understand the community in which they work,
(b) to understand themselves in relation to their community,
(c) to identify the needs and problems in the community,for the solution of which they can be involved,
(d) to develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility,
(e) to apply their education in finding practical solution to individual and community problems,
(f) to develop competence required for group living and sharing responsibilities,
(g) to gain skills in mobilising community participation,
(h) to acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude
(i) to develop capacity to meet emergencies and national disasters and
(j) to practise naitional integration.

PROGRAMMES :
There are two types of programmes taken up by N.S.S. (a) Regular activity, (b) Special camp activity. The regular activities are expected to be undertaken in the week and programmes in the college camps,local areas or in the adopted villages for a short duration. Special camping activities are expected to be undertaken only in the adopted village by staying in the villages for days together.

TYPES OF ACTIVITEIES :
(a) Rural Projects :The N.S.S.Volunteers take up projects for the social uplifitment in the rural areas such as
(i) Eradication of illiteracy,
(ii) Minor irrigation works,
(iii) Agricultural operation,
(iv) Environment enrichment and conservation,
(v) Health,family welfare and nutrition programmes,
(vi) Construction of roads, houses for homeless.

(b) Urban Porjects : In the urban localities and slum areas,the volunteers help out in social welfare programmes such as Adult and Mass Education, environment preservation, drug de-addiction, sanitation and health education A.I.D.S / S.T.D. etc.
(c) Institutional projects : Students take up schemes such as tree plantation,idea of improving College campus and maintain good environment of the institution.
(d) Programmes during Emergencies: The volunteers are expected to work during natural calamities like cyclones, floods, earthquake, fire tragedy & rescue operation and help the authorities.
(e) Social Welfare Porgrammes: The student volunteers are expected to create awareness for improvement of the status of women working in hospitals,orphanage and child welfare.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR N.S.S VOLUNTEERS :
1. A Volunteer should work under the guidance of a programme officer and group leader.
2. He should abide by all the rules and discipline.
3. He must respect to other’s view and make himself worthy of confidence of the community,where he works.
4. The dress,diet and disposition should be as simple as possible during his work as volunteer.
5. They shall keep day-to-day record of their activities experience in a diary.
6. For solution of a problem they should adopt non-violent and peaceful methods only.
