New Dimension

With the passage of time and the corresponding growth of civilization, new dimensions are being added to education and an educational institution must be eager and active to give form and substance to those dimensions. The concept of education as the harbinger of the complete personality of human being gets added impetus from the attempts being taken for the harmonious development of the mind, the body and the heart of the students. The understandings by NAAC have inspired the colleges to march forward in that direction.
Apart from the traditional courses offered to the students, in recent year courses have been opened in Population studies, Environmental Studies, Information Technology, and Indian Society and Culture. At present we aspire to give a multidisciplinary approach to the curriculum design. We are taking attempts to make the course more broad-based. It has been proposed to open certificate courses in watershed Management, Horticulture, and in some others. Applications have already been made to open vocational course in Tourism and Travels Management. Attempts are being taken to accelerate research and publication activities. Works have been undertaken to expand computer and internet facilities. Proposals have been made to enrich and update the library with more books and introduce the students to the expanding world of knowledge. The college has a counselling cell and the teachers guide the students in providing information on future employment and career building opportunities, including prospects for self-employment. The college has a vast playground and our students have excelled in the state and the national level in sports and games. However, we do not have sufficient equipment for sports and games for the complete flow of their talent. We do not have a gymnasium which we hope to build in near future.
The college has provided common rooms for the boys and the Girls. It has a health-care centre, a canteen a guest room, a grievance redresal cell, and an alumni association. However, we have a long way to go. The college does not have hostel for the boys, but have a Girls’ Hostel constructed under the UGC assistance programme. It does not have staff quarters and a quarter for the Principal. The college also does not have a conference hall but now one is underway. While our college garden is blossoming forth to mark its presence, we are still working to improve our Botanical garden.
However, with all that we have and we do not have, the most significant aspects are the determination, the vigour and the zeal of our students and teachers to reach the goal, to successfully meet the challenges set forth by the new dimensions for the cause of education. And we are sure that a bright future for the college is not far away.
